Henry Cowell Redwoods Engagement | Abby & Emily

Henry Cowell State Park - Redwood Engagement | Abby + Emily

I feel you beneath

the boughs of these sentinels

They whisper our name

Entering into a redwood forest is unlike anything else -- the air is so heavy and so clean it felt like I was drinking it in with every breath. As I trailed behind my couple, who I've known and been friends with for years, and gazed up through boughs towering over me, I was struck with a deep sense of reverence. These beautiful and old redwoods have stood sentinel over the centuries, they have been here longer than any of us and will live long past us too. I felt honored to be there, photographing two people who love each other while we all gallivanted through the woods.

After spending most of the morning in the redwoods, we started to leave through the front gate, but I saw a tiny 15-minute parking area with about only four spots that had a beautiful open landscape so we stopped off. The fields were closed for maintenance, but my couple and I only went to the edge of the pavement and it worked out perfectly. They stood just at the edge of the tall grass and looked out over the line of redwoods. Beyond that lay towering mountains covered in trees and the remaining morning fog snaking its way down. It was epic and awe-inspiring. I highly recommend stopping off to take a couple extra images here -- as your are exiting, the little parking lot is just before the ticket box should be off to your right. The same field lays beyond too so you might be able to stop off elsewhere, but having an actual spot to leave our car was nice.
