hi, my name is thea valerie

I am someone that has always searched for love. I am someone who gets lost in books, movies, photographs, and life -- it's there that I find it, that magical little spark that makes you feel warm and whole. It's in lasting friendships, a hug from mom, buying yourself flowers, and late night conversations with your forever person. It's in everything, there is an endless beauty to life that arises from love and kindness.

I started out taking photos of myself and friends and I quickly realized how empowering photos can be, especially when the person behind the camera truly cares about you. When you look in a mirror, the first thing people often go to are their flaws, the things that make us most insecure, but when I look through my lens, I am seeing what makes you beautiful, what makes you you. Photography is so important because you will never be the same person that you were in a photograph. How insane is that? Every second we are changing, but there is a memory caught in time forever that you can look back on. When I look at a photo, I want it to transport me to that time and place, I want to feel the breeze in my hair, the sun on my skin, the water lapping at my feet. I especially want to remember the people I was with, because the people you love and accept into your life are the ones that will carry you through every hardship and celebrate every victory.

That is what photography is about, it's a celebration of love and of your life experiences. I want to capture those moments for you so you can keep them close.

I understand what it feels like to look at someone and just know. Growing into love, leaning on each other, learning to be better together -- these are the hallmarks of a great and lasting love. It deserves to be recorded and remembered.

kind of a nerd

When I'm not doing photography things, you can find me curled up with a book or bothering my cat. I value family and friends above all else and I enjoy spending quality time with the people I love. I also value coffee which I hold near and dear to my heart. My feel-good movie is Pride & Prejudice (2005) and my feel-good show is Pride & Prejudice (1995). Oh! And my favorite book is Pride & Prejudice...I'm kind of a Jane Austen fan if you couldn't tell. Cloudy weather and a cup of tea is my favorite way to spend a morning. I like to think I'm cute and quirky and not at all like the other girls. I occasionally take up a sewing project that will inevitably bring me to tears. I have too many hobbies and not enough time. I'm a sensitive, hopeless romantic, but I am here to brave the things that scare me most and enjoy life to the fullest. I want to capture beautiful, real moments in my photography, but more than that, I want to help people feel beautiful.

You are enough! You deserve to know that and see that!
